Put your Halloween Party over the top (where every great party belongs) with a few creepy, glowing, or seasonal-tasting cocktails. Don’t forget fun garnishes for visual pop. A few to try: stick gummy candies such as worms or eyeballs on a skewer, hang plastic toys such as spiders, scorpions, or vampire teeth from the rim. If you won’t have a bartender, you may want to choose just one or two signature cocktails and print out simple versions of the recipes so guests can assemble their own fantastic creations.
2 oz black vodka
3 oz cranberry juice
Red sugar for rimming (optional)
Red cherry (or other creepy red candy) for garnish
Dip the rim of the glass in water and then into the red sugar to rim. Pour the cranberry juice into a glass filled with ice. Either float the black vodka on top (shown here) or drizzle it in for a spooky effect. Garnish with cherry or Halloween candy.
1 part pumpkin flavored vodka
2 parts fresh orange juice
1 part cranberry juice
Halloween candy for garnish
Black sugar for rimming (optional)
Dip glass into water and then into the black sugar to rim. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with Halloween candy.
Dark and Stormy
2 oz dark rum
3 oz ginger beer
Lime wedges for squeeze and garnish
Fill a glass with ice. Add rum and ginger beer. Squeeze in one lime wedge and add a second for garnish.
How to prepare “bloody” rims for your glasses
Although raspberry jam or sauce will work okay for this, consider the impact of this high-end effect, which can also be prepared ahead of time.
1 c. Sugar
1/2 c. Karo Syrup
1/2 c. Water
Red Food Coloring
Directions: Combine sugar, syrup and water. Heat over low flame in a heavy duty pot, stirring continuously until the mixture reaches a stiff consistency (roughly 300 degrees so be careful!). Add food coloring and reduce the flame to very low.
While the mixture is still hot, carefully dip the rim of your cocktail glass into the liquid. The candy will drip creating a blood-like effect on the glass. (Recipe from singlemindedwomen.com)
