Tiki Island Party

Tiki Island Cocktails

Tiki party cocktails have a unique ability to seduce you with their pretty colors, festive garnishes, and sweet fruity flavors—before they knock you out with their one-two punch of light and dark rums. Let’s just say they know how to have a good time. You should definitely stock up on a few classic tiki mugs and tall hurricane glasses, which makes drinking way more fun and can do double duty as take home favors. If you really want to make a splash, invest in one or two ceramic volcano bowls that let you “safely” light your tropical cocktails on fire.

Classic Mai Tai

“Mai Tai” means “out of this world” in Tahitian so you know you’re in for a treat. This recipe was created by the founder of the original Trader Vic’s in 1944. Newer versions add pineapple and orange juice for a sweeter taste.

Ingredients

1 ounce light rum
1 ounce dark rum
1/2 ounce lime juice
1/2 ounce orange curacao
1/2 ounce orgeat syrup
Maraschino cherry for garnish

Directions

Pour all the ingredients except the dark rum into a shaker with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into an old-fashioned glass half filled with ice. Top with the dark rum. Garnish with the cherry.
